My name is Peter Stonelake, and I have been living in the gorgeous, Southeastern European land of Montenegro since 2005. This page is not going to include things about my work activities, academic background or involvement in church, since you can find that on the other pages linked in the menu above. This will concentrate, instead, on my hobbies and interests.
My surname "Stonelake" somehow destined me to love the mountains, even before I had any idea I'd end up in Montenegro. So, for the last couple of decades, I have been exploring the highlands of this beautiful country, ignoring most of the popular seaside areas in favour of the northern national parks (Durmitor, Prokletije) and regional nature parks (Morača, Piva), among others. I also have a great joy in taking groups of locals on tours through their own natural heritage. If your travelling takes you through Nikšić, feel free to get in touch to potentially arrange a hike. I am not a qualified guide, and my "hiking" does not involve equipment like ropes, although I do have snowshoes and crampons for winter hikes.
The map next to this has a selection of locations of photos taken on hikes, click on the map pin to see a thumbnail, and click on the thumbnail to go to the full-size Flickr image in a new tab.
Linked to hiking is the desire to capture the experience of being out in nature for other people to appreciate. For many years, I produced calendars with the theme of Montenegro's mountains. Please see my Flickr page for a selection of shots in the mountains of Montenegro.
Since the age of 16 I have been playing bass. Apart from a weekly contribution in the church band and at Christian conferences/camps, a couple of times every year I do free outdoor concerts in Nikšić town centre with some friends. The styles I mainly play are funk, jazz fusion and rock. I am not particularly good, certainly not classically trained, but it is something I enjoy doing.
